In many cultures, these moons have symbolic names. The most well-known lunar names are based on North American traditions. These hold little relevance to our seasonal experience of the moon in the Southern Hemisphere.
 
This calendar uses full moon names appropriate to Southern African cultural and astronomical heritage. These names were sourced from 'The Centre for Astronomical Heritage'. This amazing project aims to acknowledge and celebrate what is iconic and proudly South African.
